If an item isn't as described

What to do when a lot you won doesn't match its description, and how to raise it with the auction company.

Start with the auction company

If a lot you won isn't as described, raise it with the auction company that ran the auction. Choose Contact auction office on your purchase or invoice. A purchase message includes the lot; for an invoice message, include its lot number and explain the concern.

Open an item concern

On the affected invoice line, choose Open item concern. Describe how the item differs from its listing in Evidence. If you have photos or a document to share, add a link in Supporting document link, then choose Submit concern.

  • Be specific about the difference between the listing and the item.
  • Use a supporting link the auction office can access, and keep the item as received while it's reviewed.
  • Raise it promptly — auctions set their own windows and terms for these.

How it's resolved

Outcomes are decided by the auction company under the auction's terms, since auction lots are often sold as-is. Read the auction's terms for what's covered, and reach out early if you're unsure.
